A Country Church
In February 1969, Burnsville was still mostly a rural farm and cottage community. Among those early townsfolk, Crystal Lake Baptist Church was founded next to the future Interstate 35W. As the newly minted municipality grew with the urban sprawl of the 1970s, CLB maintained its country church values, growing in fellowship with each other and in devotion to God.
Over the next twenty years, CLB experienced growth as well as growing pains. Having filled the humble building that still holds classrooms and office space today, the church commissioned a new sanctuary with the hope of further expansion as God might grant.
“I will make you exceedingly fruitful”
God promised Abraham offspring when he was ninety-nine years old and his wife was barren and post-menopausal. To anyone else, such a statement from God would have been ludicrous. But Abraham believed the word of the Lord and his faith was not in vain.
Contrary to the world’s measures, God has made Crystal Lake Baptist fruitful. Many families have come to worship, only to be called on to ministry in other states. Despite it’s humble appearance, CLB has been a launching pad for the word of God, increasing the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
“I know your … poverty”
In Revelation, Jesus tells the angel of the church at Smyrna, “I know your works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but you are rich).” (Revelation 2:9). After 46 years, CLB is still a small country church. We’ve done works for Jesus and experienced tribulation. We might look poor to the world, but we strive to be rich toward God.
Our Allegiance and Alliance
Our first loyalty is to Jesus Christ, not a flavor of doctrine or a code of confession. Our beliefs align with traditional Baptist convictions, which are rooted deeply in gospels, epistles and pastoral letters of the New Testament. The foremost Baptist conviction is the sanctity and sainthood of every believer to answer directly to God, not a human representative (or ecclesiastical hierarchy).
Our services are designed to encourage and support every believer (as saints) to be personally responsive to God’s work in their lives through Bible study and practical application, regardless of interpretive differences or denominational background.
We have elected to affiliate with the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), the Minnesota-Wisconsin Baptist Convention (MWBC) and the Twin Cities Metro Baptist Association (TCMBA) for resources, missions and world wide evangelism.
